Siouxzy, Yoga Teacher
What Led Me to Yoga
Yoga has always been a part of my life. I watched my mum practice in our lounge when I was a toddler, learnt about meditation in books as a teenager, and attended my first posture based yoga class about 20 years ago. Stressed out in a busy office job, constantly ‘on edge’, and unable to relax, I began to practically explore meditation, as a way of finding peace. This became the beginning of my yogic path and led me to discover the other disciplines of yoga, including asana (postures), pranayama (breathing) and the niyamas and yamas (ethics and principles). Through pregnancy, injury, back pain and stress, yoga helped me find the balance, strength and support I needed.
I felt passionate about sharing what yoga has to offer with others and therefore decided to start a 200 hours Teacher Training Diploma at Yogacampus, London and qualified in 2021.
My Passion to Support Young People
I have one teenage son and another approaching adolescence. Teenage years have often been misunderstood as children with ‘raging hormones’ and a time to ‘get through’. I want to support young people to realise that it is a time of change, but one that can be enjoyed. I recognised after the pandemic that there is an increasing need for mental health support for young people and that yoga can provide this key support as they journey through adolescence, so I took a further teacher training with Teen Yoga. More specifically yoga can help with stress and anxiety management, improving self-regulation and self-efficacy and building physical and mental strength and flexibility. Research done is now supporting what those practicing have know for years, yoga helps!
